Alice Jewell Named as McKenna Foundation's New CEO

The McKenna Foundation Board of Trustees announced today that it has selected Alice Jewell as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, taking over with the retirement of Dr. Jerry Major, who served as Foundation CEO since 2011.

Alice has been the senior Executive Director at the Foundation for the past eight years and has a superb track record of assisting area nonprofits to be the best that they can be in improving community well-being. She wants to build on the success of Jerry Major’s superb leadership, and her passion for, and vision of, what can be perfectly matches the Foundation Board’s goal of being more impactful. "She has already provided significant leadership within the organization and in the community, and we are very excited that she will be the new face of McKenna. We have, with our nonprofit partners, positively affected the lives of thousands of our fellow citizens, and Alice can help us to be even more effective," said Michael Spain, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The Board formed a Committee in October to begin the process of identifying its next CEO. The Foundation received numerous applications from very qualified CEO candidates. Most were from the New Braunfels and Comal County community. Applications also came from candidates in other parts of Texas and other States. The Committee, with the Board’s approval, narrowed the field to several extremely well-qualified finalists, with Alice emerging as the Committee’s and the Board’s choice. The Board expressed its gratitude to all applicants for their interest in the Foundation and the CEO position. "The numerous applications and the applicants’ obvious talent and desire to be a part of the next phase of the Foundation’s good works are clear evidence of the Foundation’s growing reputation for good in the community and in the surrounding region," said Wes Studdard, who has served on McKenna’s Board for many years.

In reacting to her selection, Alice expressed her thanks to the Board. "I am extremely honored to accept this position and, more importantly, this responsibility. We live in a great community, but there are people and situations in our community that need help. My hope, working in full concert with the Board, is to leverage the experience, the human and financial resources, and the genuine care of the McKenna Foundation family with other community assets that are poised to do even more good for our neighbors. Together, we will make positive changes."

Please join the McKenna Foundation and its Board in congratulating Alice.
